There are different tags for displaying headings, paragraphs, buttons, line breaks, images, and much more. Tags are elements on the page that describe how content should be displayed. Notice how this page you’re reading has headings in larger font and breaks between paragraphs? That effect is due to HTML tags. It is a domain specific programming language that allows you to display structured content in a web browser. HTML stands for hypertext markup language. There are three fundamental technologies that every developer must know in order to write code that will run in a web browser: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. ![]() Understanding these technologies is key to building a strong foundation as a web developer.
